SustainFloyd actively seeks community partners in line with our mission. Our programs committee screens all requests seeking our involvement and all programs are approved by the board of directors. Successful applicants may be eligible for assistance. We are developing resources to aid in locating funding sources, technical education and grant writing. SustainFloyd is willing to assist with developing connections with governmental, professional, educational and municipal contacts; community outreach; potential direct funding; and people-power through our core of volunteers.

Types of Projects

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, SustainFloyd furthers our mission primarily through research, education and outreach. This can include demonstration projects to show how certain sustainable businesses can thrive in a rural community like Floyd. We are particularly interested in asset-based enterprises, those that utilize our local assets while not exploiting them and thus preserving those assets for future generations. While open to all projects in line with our mission, the following sectors have been identified as SustainFloyd priorities:

  • Encouragement of local green businesses
  • Local sustainable agriculture and food infrastructure development
  • Energy resource development and conservation
  • Waste management improvement
  • Watershed protection
  • Land use education
