Breakfast at the Market
September 16 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am
Floyd Farmers Market regulars, along with out of town visitors, will enjoy an extra treat on Saturday, September 16th when SustainFloyd hosts its popular Breakfast at the Market, featuring whole grain pancakes from 8:30 a.m. -11 a.m. The breakfast will be held behind the Floyd Farmers Market at the Village Green. The fundraiser for the Market, established in 2011 by SustainFloyd, will also offer local scrambled eggs, grits, maple or fruit syrup, Red Rooster coffee and orange juice, all for only $8. Children 11 and under will eat for $5.
The meal will be prepared by Floyd’s Blue Ridge Café and served by SustainFloyd volunteers. Bright Farm patty sausage can also be purchased for an extra $2. Much of the food for the meal will be bought from area farmers. Live local music will accompany the breakfast.
The Breakfast at the Market will be held rain or shine, with a tent erected in case of rain. The breakfast will be powered by SustainFloyd’s Solar VoltzWagon, a 6×12-foot utility trailer, which can provide 1500 watts of solar power. The VoltzWagon is used regularly for the Floyd Farmers Market and to demonstrate renewable energy for schools, residents and visitors. The Solar VoltzWagon can also provide emergency power during a power outage and may be rented for a variety of outdoor events.
No reservations are needed and there are no advance tickets. Those having breakfast will also enjoy the convenience of shopping from a full array of vendors under the roof of the adjacent Floyd Farmers Market. The Market and breakfast are across the street from the Floyd Country Store.
The Floyd Farmers Market will be offering local, sustainably produced vegetables, fruit, eggs, and meats. Area florists, cheese makers, bakers and crafters will also sell their goods.
