Recycling October 1 is ON

Rain or Shine: Tomorrow we’re collecting recyclables and reusables tomorrow. Bring them to the SustainFloyd office, next to the Farmers Market.

So much of what we throw out, or even recycle, can be more environmentally handled by finding a reuse. Many of our market vendors and other small businesses in Floyd can take back packaging for reuse. Buying new glass bottles for food packaging is not only expensive but requires extra energy for manufacture and shipping. You can return packaging directly to the food vendors, or bring then to our recycling events and we’ll get them back to the right place. In addition to the labeled bottles from specific vendors, items like mason jars are useful to several local producers. Other items that can be reused include plastic berry boxes (see image), egg cartons, medicine bottles with labels removed, single use grocery bags. reusable tote bags, clean, unlabelled plant pots and more.

Reusables include glass jars and bottles, berry boxes, egg cartons, medicine bottles (labels remover), plant pots (without printing), reusable tote bags and single use grocery bags.

(If you are ready to change to reusable bags we have some lovely new recycled cotton market bags for sale, and also a stock of free second hand reusable plastic bags.)
