Ricardo Brown presents ‘Understanding Solar’, an introduction to solar power, describing how it works and the options currently available.

Ric, is a former electrical engineer and the owner of Solshine Energy Alternatives, an electrical and solar contracting company. An avid environmentalist, Rick has been fascinated with solar electricity since his teens. He has 30 years of experience working in the electrical/electronic engineering field along with 11 years in the field of photovoltaics, including residential and business installations, and teaching solar electric fundamentals.

Backyard Solar

Another video on solar. ‘Backyard Solar: Choices for How to Get Solar Installed and Working at Your House.’ This one was created for us by Mark Laity-Snyder, VP of Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicle Association (REEVA). Mark Laity-Snyder is a Mechanical Engineer and Solar and Electric Vehicle enthusiast. REEVA does projects to help people install solar for the cost of materials.

Virginia’s 100% Clean Power Goal

James Madison University is a leader in the field of wind energy education. They presented a program about distributed wind energy, suitable for home scale installations, ‘Virginia’s 100% Clean Power Goal’.

Dr. Jonathan Miles serves as Professor of Integrated Science and Technology and Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Energy at James Madison University. Mr. Dustyn Vallies serves as Outreach and Deployment Manager for the Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Energy at James Madison University.

Myths about EVs

Mark Laity-Snyder joined us again to share some thoughts on electric vehicles–‘Myths about EVs’. The talk covers ten myths about electric vehicles and the realities of owning an electric. Different electric vehicles are compared.
