Take Dad for Buckwheat Cakes Saturday, June 18, 2016 at SustainFloyd’s Breakfast at the Market
Father’s Day Weekend in Floyd will feature SustainFloyd’s popular Breakfast at the Market Saturday morning, June 18. Everyone is welcome at the 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. breakfast, held in back of the Floyd Farmers Market at the Village Green. The fundraiser for the Market, established in 2011 by SustainFloyd, will offer all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes, eggs, grits, fruit topping, coffee and juice, prepared by Fat Bean Farm & Food Co. for only $8/adults. Bright Farm patty sausage can also be purchased for an extra $2. Much of the food for the meal will be bought from area farmers. The breakfast will be accompanied by area musicians.
“The SustainFloyd Breakfast at the Market has become a highly anticipated summer tradition here in Floyd,” said Jackie Crenshaw, President of SustainFloyd. “The food is delicious, the conversations among residents and visitors are lively and the atmosphere is fun. This year, we’ve timed the event to coincide with Father’s Day. What better way to give Dad a treat than a great breakfast?”
The Breakfast at the Market will be powered by SustainFloyd’s Solar VoltzWagon, a 6×12 foot utility trailer, which can provide 1500 watts of solar power. The VoltzWagon is used regularly for the Floyd Farmers Market and to demonstrate renewable energy for schools, residents and visitors. The Solar VoltzWagon can also provide emergency power during a power outage and may be rented for a variety of outdoor events.
No reservations are needed and there are no advance tickets. Those having breakfast will also enjoy the convenience of shopping from a full array of vendors under the roof of the adjacent Floyd Farmers Market. The Market and breakfast are across the street from the Floyd Country Store.
The Floyd Farmers Market will be offering local, sustainably produced vegetables, fruit, eggs, and meats. Area florists, cheese makers, bakers and crafters will also sell their goods. The night before, on Friday, June 17th, local artisans will sell their wares in the same space.
SustainFloyd is a non-profit organization, which seeks to enhance a rural quality of life by developing regional agriculture, supporting local farmers, preserving farmland environments and creating a strong local food network that will add value to the Floyd community and beyond.
