Hear Revealing Research on Floyd’s Energy Usage

Learn about Programs and Methods to Cut Your Energy Bill

Floyd, VA – Concerned about your energy bill this winter? Join energy conservation experts for a free seminar at the Floyd Country Store on Thursday, November 10th at 6:15 p.m. to learn how you can improve the energy efficiency of your home or business.  All of us can and should achieve energy efficiency through conservation.  Sponsoring this exciting seminar are SustainFloyd, the Association of Energy Conservation Professionals (AECP), the Community Alliance for Energy Efficiency (CAFE2), the Floyd County Economic Development Office, Community Housing Partners (CHP), Wall Residences, The Floyd Country Store, Hotel Floyd and Wall Construction.

Find out how some Floyd County households will be eligible for free assistance to weatherize their homes through the State Weatherization program. Or, you may be eligible for loan assistance from a new program through CAFE2.

Hear how Floyd County uses its energy resources.  Dr. Sean McGinnis, who directs the Green Engineering Program at Virginia Tech, will debut an Energy Inventory undertaken by SustainFloyd for the town of Floyd and Floyd County. This inventory consists of home and business electrical usage, transportation fuel data, and propane or home heating oil consumption in both the residential and commercial sector.  SustainFloyd plans to use the inventory as a benchmark, which will enable our community and local government(s) to better understand the impact of Floyd County’s energy consumption..

Learn how to cut your energy bill through conservation.  Billy Weitzenfeld, Executive Director of AECP, a non-profit energy education and advocacy organization headquartered in Floyd, will discuss “Saving Energy in the Home.” Weitzenfeld will provide tips on how to lower energy costs through conservation, lengthen the life of appliances, save natural resources and preserve the environment.

Gregg Lewis, Director of CAFE2, will describe the steps that all homeowners can take to participate in this new residential home energy performance program. Homeowners who sign up with CAFE2 can access a wide variety of incentives designed to help them pay for home energy assessments and upgrades. Mr. Lewis will outline the ways that those efforts will save homeowners energy and money and make their homes safer and more comfortable. Formed by Community Housing Partners (CHP), CAFE2 offers a robust quality assurance review of all work conducted by the organization’s pool of qualified contractors and guides consumers through every step of the CAFE2 process.

The final speaker will be Bill Beachy, Vice President of CHP Energy Services.  Mr. Beachy will discuss CHP’s Weatherization program, which reduces energy costs for low-income families by optimizing energy efficiency in the home, while assessing and eliminating related health and safety issues.

Come join us to learn more about programs available to support your personal energy efficiency goals and those of our community!
