October 19th was a busy day for SustainFloyd because we got the chance to host Governor Terry McAuliffe and Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Basil Gooden for a quick meeting in the Floyd Farmers Market. Governor McAuliffe has been a long-time supporter of solar energy and expressed an interest in checking out our Solar Voltzwagon on his tour of Southwest Virginia. They were also very interested in our efforts and programs related to sustainable agriculture and forestry. It was a small gathering that included SustainFloyd Board members, local government officials, business owners, Democratic party officials and others from the community.

SustainFloyd was honored to be offered this opportunity on short notice, and it could not have turned out better. We did get to focus attention on many of the programs already accomplished as well as our on-going projects like the Climate Pledge, Market Food Guide, and Farmers Market. Stay tuned for more coming from SustainFloyd in the next few weeks and months. We are excited for what’s coming up for us and how we are collaborating with the community to start 2018 with a bang.
