Tomorrow (Saturday March 16th) weather permitting, Jason Rutledge of Healing Harvest Forest Foundation will break ground at Blue Valley Organic, SustainFloyd’s working model farm. Jason will hitch up his team beginning around 10 am and plow the sloping fields on the contours for the planting beds thus preserving soil and reducing erosion on our hilly farm. Jeff Walker of Blue Ridge Site and Soils helped us map the contours and Jason will follow those lines.
SustainFloyd invites all who may be interested to come and observe and participate in this age-old practice that we are bringing to our operation. There’ll be plenty to watch and learn and if you’re felling energetic, you can help de-stone the fields as the team passes but this is not a work day so feel free to just come, watch and commune.
The farm is located at 483 Eanes Road NE, Check, VA 24072. The driveway is across from the green mailbox on Eanes Road, exactly .7 of a mile off Stonewall Road if you are coming in that way. Come over the ridge and you’ll see the farm.
This is a banner day for the farm. Hope you can join us.
