SustainFloyd will screen the new documentary “The Messenger” on Thursday evening, April 20, 2017 at the Floyd Country Store.
The film is an in-depth look at the challenges facing our songbirds and the message they carry to us about our earth’s fragile resources. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a dish for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. that will be followed by the film, at about 6:30 p.m. After the film there will be a community discussion, with focus on how we can support our local bird populations.
The award-winning 2016 documentary, “The Messenger”, explores our deep-seated connection to birds and warns that the uncertain fate of songbirds might mirror our own. It is a story about the depletion of songbird populations and an introduction to some of the passionate people who are working to turn the tide. It is also engaging and visually stunning, featuring new information from satellite technology that gives a glimpse into the otherwise unknown and unseen movements of birds.
Those attending the film and potluck don’t need to be members of SustainFloyd. A $5 donation is appreciated for viewing the film.
The final film of the 2017 SustainFloyd Spring Film Series will be on Thursday evening, May 18, at the Floyd Country Store. “Freightened,” an audacious investigation into the mechanics and perils of cargo shipping, will be shown.
