Full-time Farm Manager Wanted for 1st-year experimental farm in Floyd County
E-mail cover letter and resume. SustainFloyd is an equal-opportunity employer.
SustainFloyd is seeking a full-time Farm Manager for the inaugural season of its working model farm. The farm is a 1.5-acre organic operation that will ground test a detailed template and comprehensive business plan developed by SustainFloyd and its consultant, Earthwise Co. The model uses high-tunnel hoophouses, open row crops and an intensive rotation cycle to produce a steady stream of organic fruits and vegetables through an extended growing season.
The Farm Manager will implement the farm plan as well as collect data and maintain detailed notes on all operations to further inform the work. The model is intended to provide a living income for one person, so the Farm Manager will conduct all farming activities. Additional labor will be available for farm projects as needed. The Farm Manager will work closely with SustainFloyd’s staff and others in all aspects of the farm operation, including development of best practices, data collection and providing educational opportunities to the regional farming community.
The position is on a full-time independent contract basis and will run for the remainder of 2013 with the prospect of a long-term relationship.
The successful candidate will provide a proven record of self-direction and self-motivation, play well with others and have at least three years of experience in all aspects of organic crop production and preferably some farm management experience.
