The Economics of Happiness,” was winner of Best in Show this year at Gainesville,Florida’s Cinema Verde Environmental Film Festival. The documentary discusses communities such as Floyd coming together to re-build on a more human scale…ecological economies based on localization. This movie is the final documentary of the popular SustainFloyd Fall Film Series. SustainFloyd is also planning a Spring Film Series to begin in February.

“Too often we forget the holidays are supposed to be about making connections with our friends, family and community,” said Jackie Crenshaw, a SustainFloyd Board Member, who is coordinating the dinner and movie. “This is a chance to enjoy a great film, see your neighbors and make new friends over dinner.”

The Economics of Happiness” offers not only a big-picture analysis of globalization, but a powerful message of hope for the future. Thinkers and activists interviewed for the documentary come from every continent. Their message is unambiguous: in order to respect and revitalize diversity, both cultural and biological, we need to localize economic activity. They argue that a shift – away from globalizing economic activity and towards the local – is a formula that allows us to reduce our ecological footprint while increasing human well-being.
