VA Tech Competition: Design for a Less Wasteful Future

Working with Virginia Tech Department of Industrial Design and their Chair, Martha Sullivan, SustainFloyd sponsored a competition to design products or systems that could reduce waste. After an initial presentation of SustainFloyd’s challenge by Haden Polseno-Hensley, Mark Bolt, and Katy Morikawa the students, working in groups, started an intense process of idea development and presentation. When the SustainFloyd judges viewed the 27 presentations we were awed by the scope and insight of the work. Dr Kelp’s seaweed band-aids received our top award but it was a tough decision. See four more thumbnails of fascinating projects below. Congratulations to all the students and staff on such an all-round level of insight and creativity.
